There is nothing worse than lying in bed after planning an ‘early night’ to lie wide awake tossing and turning with your brain on overload thinking. Sometimes my most negative thoughts come to me when I am in this position and it’s not fun!
We live at a non-stop paced life and having 24/7 connectivity can make getting a good night’s sleep challenging. I have always been the girl who thought sleeping was a waste of time. I would always go to sleep hoping that the morning would come quickly so I could get up and get going again; or go to sleep thinking about how much I could be doing instead of sleeping. However over the last year or so, I have come to realise that sleep is as important as eating and breathing – we need it in to function on a day to day basis.
Scientific research from various universities around the world has identified that lack of sleep can increase your risk of disease and elevate blood pressure. It can also have a very negative impact on your emotional well-being by exacerbating depression, triggering anxiety and amplifying irritability and mood swings.
